About Certified Pickleball Player (CPP)

What is a Certified Pickleball Player program?

The Certified Pickleball Player program was created to recognize and celebrate players who demonstrate dedication, skill, and a genuine commitment to the game. Through this program, players can earn their official Pickleball Player Certification, receive a personalized Certified Paddle Band, and be featured on the Certified Player Map alongside others who share their passion for pickleball. Certified players also receive a digital credential to showcase on professional platforms such as LinkedIn, representing their achievement and dedication to growing the sport.

How is a Certified Rating different from a DUPR rating?

Your DUPR rating is calculated from match results - wins, losses, and score margins. Your Certified Rating is based on AI analysis of your actual on-court play - how you hit the ball, where you position yourself, your shot selection patterns, and your consistency. Many players have a DUPR rating that doesn't accurately reflect their skill level because they haven't logged enough matches or because match results don't capture the full picture. A Certified Rating fills that gap.

How does AI analysis work?

When you record a game on a camera-enabled court, the footage is uploaded to PB Vision, the AI analysis engine behind CPP. PB Vision evaluates multiple aspects of your gameplay including shot type and placement, court positioning, consistency, and tactical decision-making. The result is a detailed performance breakdown along with your Certified Rating.

Membership

How much does CPP cost?

CPP membership is $25 per year.

What's included with my membership?

Your $25 annual membership includes:

  • 3 AI-analyzed game recordings per year - you choose which sessions to use them on
  • Your personal Certified Rating on the DUPR scale
  • A detailed AI analysis you can share with coaches for more targeted lessons
  • Video highlights from your recorded sessions
  • A personalized Certified Paddle Band
  • A digital credential for LinkedIn and Facebook

Is CPP required to play?

No. CPP is completely optional. Players can continue to use self-ratings at participating facilities. Facilities may use Certified Ratings to improve court assignments, but membership is never required to play.

Recording & Results

How do I record my game?

Camera-enabled courts use either the PlaySight or SaveMyPlay system. Your facility will have instructions posted on camera courts and staff available to help. The key requirement is to use the same email address across all systems (your facility booking platform, CPP, and the camera app) so your recording connects to your CPP account. If you are playing on a court without a camera (indoor or outdoor) you are able to use any other kind of camera. Be sure to follow recording guide here.

When will I receive my results?

After your session, you'll receive two emails:

  1. Video Highlights: typically within a few hours of your session
  2. AI Analysis & Certified Rating: once PB Vision has finished processing, typically within 24-48 hours
info

Both emails are sent to the email address associated with your account.

What does the AI analysis include?

Your analysis includes your Certified Rating on the DUPR scale, a performance breakdown across multiple categories (serve, return, volleys, dinking, shot selection, court positioning, and more), a visual shot-tracking map, and identification of your strengths and areas for improvement.

Can I share my analysis with my coach?

Yes, and we encourage it. Your AI analysis gives coaches specific, data-driven insights that go beyond what's visible during a lesson. Share your results to get more targeted instruction based on exactly what the data shows.

What if I disagree with my Certified Rating?

Your Certified Rating is generated by AI analysis of your actual gameplay, not opinion or self-assessment. If you feel your rating doesn't reflect your current level, you can use another one of your annual recordings to generate a new analysis at a later session. Your game is always evolving, and your Certified Rating can evolve with it.

Open Play & Court Assignments

How do facilities use Certified Ratings?

Participating facilities use Certified Ratings alongside self-ratings to improve court assignments during open play. Players with a Certified Rating receive more accurate placements, which means more balanced and competitive sessions. Each facility determines how and when Certified Ratings are integrated into their programming.

Do self-ratings go away?

No. Self-ratings continue to be accepted. Certified Ratings are an additional layer that improves accuracy over time as more players get certified.

Video Highlights

I'm not a CPP member but I received a video highlights email. What is that?

If you played on a camera-enabled court and started a recording, you'll receive a video highlights email with footage from your game, even if you're not a CPP member. This is a feature of the camera system available to all players. CPP members additionally receive a full AI analysis and Certified Rating. You can sign up for CPP at any time to unlock the full experience on your next recorded session.
